Retirement is being transformed into something quite different than it was for our parents. Our world is experiencing an unprecedented demographic shift. More than 70 million Baby Boomers will retire in the next 20 years.
We are living longer and retiring earlier, making our retirement years the longest stage of our lives – often 30 years or more.
Second and even third careers after our “first retirement” are not uncommon.
Planning for our financial future is important, but so is the quality of our lives in retirement. Yet many of us do more planning for a two-week vacation than we do for our own retirement!
Research has identified factors that can indicate to what degree you are likely to construct a happy and personally successful life in retirement. The research shows that the more directly these dimensions are addressed the more likely you will create a retirement of meaning and purpose.
Navigating this transition to the second half of our lives can be challenging. We are examining questions about money, work, health, time, relationships, family, faith, and leisure. Most importantly, we desire to create lives of meaning and purpose while we hope to leave a legacy for future generations.
